Our Visit to Griston Bog
On the 16th of May the whole school visited Griston Bog in Ballylanders Co. Limerick. It was a very enjoyable trip where the children engaged in lots of activities throughout the day. The children learned about the history, geography and science of the raised bog by exploring each of the components that developed within a lake of meltwater after the last ice age. We even learned about the many birds and other animals such as frogs, newts and lizards which are native inhabitants of the bog. Unfortunately, even after looking long and hard we didn’t get to see any of the lizards.
Take a look at some of our pictures
The activities during the day included:
- Time travel through the stages of bog development
- Probe and measure the depth of the bog and test predictions
- Use quadrats to determine how common sphagnum moss, the bog building plant, is at Griston and to learn about fair testing
- Spot signs of the season
- Bird watching: observation skills using binoculars
- Pond dipping: observation skills using microscopes
Food Dudes

Over the past number of weeks, we have been taking part in the Food Dudes Healthy Eating Programme. Every day we have fresh fruit and vegetables to taste and enjoy. So far, we’ve tried bananas, mandarins, peppers, baby corn, cucumber and lots more!
yum yum!

Spring Clean
Spring Clean Day at
Ballindangan
National School
On Saturday the 23rd of March the children, parents, families and staff at Ballindangan School took part in a spring clean day.
Those who attended worked very hard to tidy and improve our outdoor environment. We prepared our planting boxes for new plants, we painted the obstacle course on the yard, upgraded our basketball court and even invited some minions to stay at our school.
A great day was had by all.
