Aistear
In Ballindangan N.S., We strive to provide vast opportunities for our young children to experience play. The Aistear Curriculum highlights the importance of play for young children’s early learning and development, and offers many suggestions for different types of play, as well as advice on how to integrate play into classroom learning.
A curriculum framework for children from birth to six years in Ireland, Aistear describes the types of learning that are important for children in their early years. As a curriculum framework, Aistear can work as a guide for primary schools and teachers in planning practical learning programmes for children in infant classes.
One of the biggest differences between Aistear and the infant curriculum is play. Aistear shows how important play is for young children’s early learning and development and offers a lot of ideas and for different types of play as well as giving examples of how you might use play in your classroom.
Aistear uses themes instead of subjects to outline what children should learn during their early childhood. The framework has 12 principles. The themes are:
Well-being
Identity and Belonging
Communicating
Exploring and Thinking
